Nudgee back to back Pennant Champions

For the second year, the Nudgee Golf Club are the Brisbane District Golf Association Division 1 Pennants Champions.

In September this year, the club completed an extraordinary feat when it clinched the overall Division 1 flag for 2014 after winning the Division 1 flag in 2013, Division 2 in 2012 and Division 3 in 2011.

The pennant is determined by the overall success of a club’s three pennant teams – Open, Junior and Masters (seniors).

“It has certainly been some wonderful years for the Nudgee GC pennant team. ” Nudgee Golf Club’s general manager Aaron Muirhead said. “The pennant team here at Nudgee are an exceptional group and the team camaraderie has emerged  through their results. It was a pleasure to witness this team spirit that the players, caddies and supporters displayed at all of the events, which certainly made the win, and previous wins, even more significant.”

The final round was a home game against Pacific GC with the winner taking the Division One Pennant for the year.  With everything on the line the team performed brilliantly, and comprehensively accounted for Pacific 16.5 to 4.5.  “Back to back winners in Division One are rare, and it shows how much talent there is in the men's membership at the moment.” Nudgee Golf Club Captain Lindsay Rattray said. “ In fact our run of pennants now stretches to four in a row. A big thanks to the many members who give up their Sunday mornings to come out and caddie for the team.  Finally, a huge congratulations to all the men that took part in the teams performance over the 2014 Pennant season, well done lads.”

Dr Robert Sang, Nudgee GC President said “It is fantastic to see the team to have back to back wins in division one. Four pennant wins in a row is a major golfing feat and says a lot about the golfing talents at Nudgee Club. We really are a golf club for golfers.”

2014 FTI Consulting Nudgee Pro Am

The FTI Consulting Nudgee Pro Am was played yesterday and is the 1st Pro Am at Nudgee since 2010. Previous winners of Pro Am's here at Nudgee include Terry Price, Ryan Haller and Brad Kennedy.
Nick Russell made the most of the benign morning conditions to fire a scintillating nine under par 62 for a four shot victory over Ryan Woodward. Nick's round equals the course record set, by Roger Davis in 2006 in the 1st Round of the Qld Senior Open.

“We could not of asked for better scoring conditions this morning and it was nice that I could take full advantage of the conditions,” said Russell. “It is great to see the Nudgee Pro Am once again on the Queensland Sunshine, especially in year where it has been so difficult to keep tournaments on the schedule. They always run a great event at Nudgee and it’s nice to add my name to the honour role of Pro Am winners.”

FTI Consulting Pro Am - 12 September 2014

The Club is hosting the FTI Consulting Pro-Am on 12 September 2014 of which there are spots available in the morning (shotgun 7.00am) for $40 per person which includes golf with a leading PGA Professional and lunch after your round. There are limited spots available in the afternoon field (shotgun 12 noon) for $80 per person which also includes golf with a leading PGA Professional along with dinner & drinks. 2014 Nudgee Masters Classic Champion

Congratulations to our 2014 Nudgee Masters Classic Men's Champion, Mario La Chiusa. Mario finished the 2 day, 36 hole event on 147 after shooting rounds of 75 and 72. Well done on this achievement Mario.

Nudgee Ladies Golf Club raise money for Ovarian Cancer Research

Nudgee Ladies Golf Club raised $ 7038.00 for Ovarian Cancer Research Mater.  What a fantastic result!

Fatty visits Nudgee GC

Look who dropped in for a hit at Nudgee GC prior to calling the State of Origin tonight - Paul "Fatty" Vautin. Fatty had 2 comments, first comment was that the greens are fantastic and the second being "GO THE MAROONS!"

Nudgee Masters Classic 2014

Congratulations to Mario LaChuisa who beat Gary Heslop on the first playoff hole after the normal 36 holes. Both were tied after the 2 day event with 147 (Mario - 75 & 72 & Gary 70 & 77). Mario was crowned the Nudgee Masters Classic Champion for 2014. Well done Mario!

Nudgee GC Member Rides to Conquer Cancer!

One of Nudgee Golf Club's members, Brad Petley has entered himself into the Rio Tinto Ride to Conquer Cancer 2014 which kick off in August. Each participant in the ride has an obligation to raise at least $2,500 by the commencement of the event. To date, Brad has raised $1,035 and needs the help of Nudgee Members to reach the $2500 total.  Club Professional, John Downs has kindly agreed to assist by featuring a raffle basket and selling raffle tickets in the Pro Shop. Tickets for the are $2 each, 3 for $5 or 8 for $10 and will be drawn at Nudgee (eg. in Pro Shop or clubhouse) at 12midday on Saturday 9 August 2014.  

Members will also be able to donate as there is a collection tin on the bar within the club house. Any small change will be happily accepted.

The Rio Tinto Ride to Conquer Cancer is taking place on 16-17 August, 2014.  The Rio Tinto Ride to Conquer Cancer® benefits the QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute  a world leader in cancer research and one of the largest and most successful medical research institutes in Australia. The Ride is 200 kilometres over two days through (yet to be disclosed) Qld countryside.

Philippines Charity Golf Day result

On Friday, 17 January 2014, the Nudgee Golf Club held a charity golf day to raise valuable funds to go toward children that have been recently affected by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. The golf event held was a 4 person ambrose event and the day was extremely well supported by local businesses, club supporters and Nudgee Golf Club members. Nudgee Golf Club General Manager, Aaron Muirhead said that “These type of events have proven very successful in the past and when I heard of the tragedy that occurred in the Philippines late last year, I wanted to do something to raise funds for the kids that had been affected, similar to what we did for the Haiti Earthquake affected kids in 2010”. “I would like to thank all the sponsors, supporters and participants on the day for contributing to this worthy cause”.

The charity day raised a total just under $6000 at the conclusion of the event, but the club has put in the difference to make the total and even $6000 to go toward the ‘Save the Children’ fund. “We certainly hope that the money gets to the Philippines and is used in an appropriate way to assist the kids impacted by this tragedy”.
